Have you ever wanted to write a short story? Maybe you know the benefits short story writing has for writers. Or maybe you just want to try something new.
Today, I just watched this excellent training on how to write a short story. The info is so good, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I created a worksheet based on this lecture and you can download it when you subscribe to this newsletter!
You don’t have to watch the whole thing, (but take a gander at the comment box, there were some really amazing ideas flying around during the brainstorming exercise in the second half of the video) but I thought it was awesome to participate in this live. There were so many ideas flying in the chat box as this was going on. I highly recommend joining these trainings live.
Here’s a link to register for upcoming live write-ins.
But if you don’t want to watch the whole thing, I can summarize the lecture for you in one, quick easy to remember sentence:
A short story is about your character either succeeding or failing to achieve their goal in an unexpected way.
So let’s break it down.
A) You have a Character
B) They Have a Goal
C) You must decide if they succeed or fail to achieve that goal
D) The way they succeed/fail is unexpected & interesting to the character and/or reader
Now this is an oversimplification of how to write a short story, so I wanted to put together a worksheet that really encapsulates this lecture. You can save it to your Google Drive as a template. To get access to this template you just need to subscribe!
Do go at it alone! Share this post with a writing buddy to follow along!
