Dear Writer,
Have you heard of NaNoWriMo?
It’s an annual writing competition where thousands of writers across the globe pledge to write 50,000 words in 30 days. It’s National Novel Writing Month, y’all!
I’ve participated many times, and almost always as an after thought. This year, I thought I’d try something I’ve never done before…
PREPTOBER!
The unofficial writing holiday of sorts where folks who want to participate in NaNoWriMo, prepare in the month of October.
And by prepare, I mean take notes, create characters, forge outlines, and get all of that pre-writing stuff that isn’t actual prose on the page and ready to go for the writing frenzy.
So, for the month of October, I am going to be sending out daily prompts and questions to help you explore your novel in preparation for NaNoWriMo in a separate newsletter called “NaNoWriMo”!
If you want to get these daily emails in your inbox, simply click your profile in the upper right hand corner, and go to Manage Subscription.
Then check the “NaNoWriMo” newsletter to get notifications every time I post to this newsletter!
You will be able to see all the posts by going to the website and navigating to the “NaNoWriMo” tab at the top. But if you would like daily email notifications about these posts to help guide you through the writing process, you’ll want to turn them on with the instructions above. (Respond to this email if you need help).
Are you going to participate in NaNoWriMo this year? Let me know in the comments!
Nanowrimo is awesome!! I’ve never done it myself but my wife has done it multiple years, and has even managed to complete it. Such a cool idea!
I am planning on doing Nanowrimo this year I try to participate every year as well as camp Nano in April and June. I have a tendency to get stuck and then distracted half way through and have never actually finished a Nano project. I am hoping better preparation will help me finish this year. I started by participating in Autocrit's Beat Sheet challenge and am hoping to turn that into an actual outline. I am also working on character profiles for my secondary characters. I hoping your Nano newsletter will give me some ideas as to what else I can do to prepare and succeed.
