Today’s question is:
What is the curve ball your villain throws at your main character?
Feel free to share your answer in the comments! I would love to hear your response!
Our main characters are pretty strong, they’ve been through a lot and now they have a plan to take down the antagonist.
The only problem is, your antagonist is a strong adversary and a worthy villain. So they have a few tricks up their sleeve.
How can your antagonist change the script on your main character? Display your villain’s fire power. This is your main character’s toughest challenge yet.
About 80% of the way through the Hunger Games, the game commissioner changes the rules. Now, two victors will be allowed to win if they are from the same district. This makes it easy for Katniss and Peeta to compete together.
But then at the last minute, the rules change again. The previous rule is revoked in an attempt to create a blood bath between lovers in this final showdown.
Peeta offers himself in a true act of heroism (actions like these define characters and help readers form opinions and connections with them). But Katniss is clever, nearly as clever as the Game Commissioner, so she makes the plan for them both to die instead of giving them their victor.
Moves and counter moves. How does your villain try to out-maneuver your main character?
In Pride and Prejudice, Lady Catherine De Bourgh confronts Lizzy about her relationship with Mr. Darcy, trying to scare her off. But Elizabeth stands her ground and deflects Lady Catherine’s insults with poise and grace. This is her final “battle” before she finally marries Darcy.
P.S.— Look how perfect the comment on the video is 🤣
