Hello. I’m Alex Knepper, your friendly neighborhood writer. Here, I like to talk about the writing process and the things I’m consuming that keep me inspired. Stick around and hopefully you’ll get inspired too!
If you know someone who might like to get these in their inbox, go ahead and share it.
Last time, I mentioned that I am currently subjecting myself to a NaNoWriMo run. That’s right. I’m writing 50k words in 30 days and here’s why:
I have been stuck. S.T.U.C.K.
Two things happened this summer:
I finished Maggie Stiefvater’s Writing Seminar
I started re-outlining my novel1
I had tried twice previously to start and finish the seminar. Both times, I stopped when I felt inspired/when the lesson surpassed my current writing phase. I felt that if I wasn’t at the editing and revision part of my novel, why watch those videos?
This time, however, I was determined to finish the damn thing. To do that, I knew I needed a plan.
Enter Notion.
If you don’t know, Notion is a project management tool. But it’s so much more than that.
Imagine you have an excel document and each cell had the ability to be opened to reveal a document, chart, link, photo gallery, links, another table, a calendar, and/or a to-do list. That’s right, AND/OR. You can put multiple items in each individual cell, and then you can tag them, sort them, filter them, stick them in a stew.
*Chef’s kiss*
This handy dandy tool is fantastic for novelists, bloggers… and projects of all shapes and sizes.
Next time, I’ll talk about how I use notion to outline and track your novel progress. So make sure you subscribe.
For now, though, let’s take a look at how I used Notion to tackle Maggie Stiefvater’s Writing Seminar.
I’m sharing all of this not to convince you that I’m insane, but to give you an example of just how powerful this tool is— and to perhaps give you some ideas on how to use Notion for your writing projects.
You could track character profiles, scene lists, brainstorm ideas, create and maintain a writing schedule, and a promotion schedule all in one convenient location.
I hope I have you excited about notion because next time, I am going to share my notion template for writing my novel! Stay tuned!
xx
Alex
I know I didn’t even touch on this— but we will talk next week about outlining, re-outlining, and the crazy writer’s block spiral.
