I started doing this thing when I was moving. I wanted to keep up with writing but the move took a tone of focus.
So I started writing poetry and haikus from the point of view of my characters. This was pretty fun!
It kept ideas fresh and helped me explore emotional aspects of my characters I hadn’t otherwise thought of.
This haiku is one of those poems. This is from Jack’s perspective from Jack Stone. before the events of The Sign of the Rose, Jack & team go to Manchukuo1 for a rescue mission. Gavain’s brother is a reporter who learns too much and now he needs rescued.
It doesn’t go well.
I recommend setting the mood with this one:
The events in Manchukuo haunt Jack and Gavain as the world spins on. But that’s the territory that goes with the job. Finish one mission and the next one rolls in, with no regard for how much everything has changed.
I still see you when
I sleep at night; forever
was only a game
